Free Professional Advice: What You Need to Know About Your Executive Resume

An executive resume is a unique "beast" because it's typically heavier with content, and oftentimes, more in-depth when it comes to internal involvement; i.e. committee/executive board involvement, financials, operations, staff management, corporate branding, market share growth, and the list goes on.

Chief-level professionals are exclusive, and saying that they are trendsetters and go-getters just doesn't seem to capsulate exactly what they embody. Some of my favorite clients to work with, actually, are executives, business owners, consultants, directors, and others at the top of their game. As my main pages states, they "control their careers; continue their education because it's in the best interest of themselves and their employers; embrace new techniques, systems, and processes; and, they are prone to outperform, outdo, and outwit."

Anyway, back to what you need to know about your executive resume. Here are 3 factors to consider:

First,
if your resume looks like those used by your subordinates, you're going about it the wrong way. Executives and other high-end professionals should utilize a resume that fits into their overall branding strategies.

Second, your resume should contain taglines and other features that fit into the overall theme of your value. Those taglines and other job-search "messages" should be translated throughout each of your documents: bios, cover letter, brag book, online portfolio, LinkedIn account, and video resume.

Third, your resume shouldn't be flat. It should not only be well written, but the content should somewhat "leap off the page." Although a resume can be considered a boring job-search doc to some, it's a necessary evil when it comes to marketing yourself to that next corporation. Take it seriously.
